E.164 phone number format
E.164 is the international standard for phone numbers: a country code, national destination code, and subscriber number — no spaces, dashes, or parentheses.
Anatomy of an E.164 number
+[country code][national destination code][subscriber number]
- +1 415 555 2671 — United States (country code 1, area code 415)
- +44 7700 900123 — United Kingdom (country code 44)
- +33 1 42 68 53 00 — France (country code 33)
Why format matters before verification
Verification and carrier lookup providers match on normalized numbers. The same number written five ways (415-555-2671, (415) 555 2671, 1.415.555.2671…) is still one record — but only after normalization can it be deduplicated and priced once. phoneveriflo normalizes every row to E.164 before quoting, so duplicates you would otherwise pay for are removed automatically.
Quick formatting rules
- Always include the
+and country code for international numbers. - Drop leading zeros from the national part (e.g. UK
07700 900123→+447700900123). - No spaces, hyphens, parentheses, or dots.
- Max 15 digits total after the country code.
